Plymouth Argyle beat Leyton Orient 2-0 to move to the top of League One. The result leaves the O's in 11th place with 10 points from their opening eight matches.

Goals from Aribim Pepple and Will Evans in a four-minute spell early in the second half secured Plymouth's third consecutive away win. Pepple opened the scoring in the 52nd minute before Evans doubled the lead just four minutes later. The victory means Plymouth have won five of their last six games in all competitions.

Plymouth manager Tom Cleverley played down the significance of his side's new position. "We've become very focused on what we do, preparing for the next game and then performing in the next game," he said. Cleverley added there was "no talk" of the league table within his squad.

League One context

The win puts Plymouth one point clear at the summit, having played one game more than second-placed Bradford City. Bradford drew 1-1 with Reading on the same day. Elsewhere, Chesterfield scored three times in eight minutes late on to beat Tranmere 4-2, and Salford won to move to the top of League Two.

For Leyton Orient, the defeat continues a difficult run of form, with just one win in their last five league outings. Their next challenge is a trip to face Bradford, who they lost 3-1 to at home earlier this season.

Leyton Orient travel to Valley Parade to face Bradford on Saturday, 10 October.
