Leyton Orient have signed West Bromwich Albion defender Alfie Gilchrist on a season-long loan, bolstering their League One squad ahead of the new season. The 22-year-old defender joins the O's after making 13 league appearances for the Baggies during the 2025-26 campaign. He could make his Orient debut against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Gilchrist moves to Richie Wellens' side to continue his development. The defender came through Chelsea's academy before making his senior debut for the Blues in December 2023. He spent the next season on loan at Sheffield United.
"I'm really excited to get going," Gilchrist told the Orient website. "When I was younger, I came to watch some matches here, and I know it is going to be a good place for me. The gaffer gave me a great first impression of the club, and after that I wanted to get everything done as quickly as possible."
Leyton Orient are currently 20th in League One, 51 points behind leaders Lincoln, with 59 goals scored and 71 conceded this season. Their recent form has been DLLDL, with a 2-2 draw against Burton Albion on May 2nd being their last result.
